In recent years, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) has developed into one of the most important control instruments of European resource policy. At the latest since the tightening of EU requirements through the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive and the mandatory introduction of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, the responsibility of manufacturers for the end-of-life phase of their packaging has become a central component of the European circular economy.
